Four of our undergraduate students, Kory Kirk, John McCoey, AJ Palkovic and Casey Burkhardt competed in the Battlecode programming competition held by MIT. The competition was sponsored by companies like Apple and Adobe. Battlecode is a real time strategy game in which two teams of multiple different robots compete to capture, defend, and build up key areas on a map. The students' challenge was to program an entire team of robots using artificial intelligence. All of the robots ran the same code and could only communicate by passing a single string. Over 300 teams registered for the competition, and the Villanova team placed 3rd among non-MIT teams, and 2nd among the Non-MIT universities.
